A simplified Moorsbus timetable and network comprises several long distance routes from places such as York, Hull, Scarborough, Middlesbrough (including stops at Linthorpe Village, Acklam, Coulby Newham, Marton and Nunthorpe) and Darlington with four themed routes inside the North York Moors:
- Western Explorer – covering the southwest corner including Hawnby, Osmotherley, Rievaulx and Helmsley.
- Moorland Discovery – covering the central moorland including The Moors National Park Centre at Danby, Chop Gate and Newton under Roseberry.
- Rosedale Rambler – covering Rosedale, Hutton-le-Hole and Cropton.
- Dalby Forester – running from Scarborough to Pickering with free entry to Dalby Forest.
In addition to the timetable, there are also four new Discover and Explore leaflets – one for each of the internal routes – giving suggestions on places to go and things to do using Moorsbus. The changes have been introduced following a review of the service carried out with passengers, partner agencies and staff.
Janet Armstrong, the National Park Authority’s Transport Project Officer, said:
“Moorsbus is a low-cost, hassle free way to see the North York Moors National Park and last year saw a passenger increase of twenty percent1. It’s a great way to keep congestion and pollution down so we’d like even more people to make use of the service. The new-look network is not only easier to use but – with less duplication of routes – we will also reduce our bus miles by around 69,000 per year which is good news for the environment.”
All day travel starts from just £5 per person with up to four children under 16 travelling free with a fare paying adult. Concessionary passes are accepted and anyone parking at a National Park Authority car park will get their parking ticket of £2.20 refunded if they purchase an all-day ticket. Special offers and discounts have been arranged with attractions, cafes and shops in the National Park including 25% off entry to English Heritage properties. There are also savings to be made on joint bus and rail travel with the North Yorkshire Moors and Esk Valley Railways.
Moorsbus services operate on Sundays and Bank Holidays – plus the Easter weekend – from 28 March to 31 October. Buses also run on Wednesdays in July and September and daily from Monday 26 July to Saturday 4 September. Moorsbus tickets can also be used on Scarborough & District’s 128 (Scarborough to Sutton Bank), Yorkshire Coastliner’s 840 (Malton to Whitby) and Arriva’s 5 and 93 services (Guisborough to Whitby and Scarborough).
