Pickering Town Council On Flooding

Postby Pick Me » Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:15 am

Pickering Town Council... yes there is one. If you have lived in Pickering all your life then you can be forgiven if you didn't know such an organisation exists. But hey ho... the inert organisation is asking for people’s views on flooding, defences etc.

Well here is it. The main protagonists of the local pressure group are no less than people who have deliberately speculated on beckside properties in the misguided belief that tax payers would enhance their investment with the spend of millions of pounds. Hard luck - speculation is what it is.. it’s a risk - sometimes it pays off - sometimes it fails. On this occasion I am glad to say that it has failed, if all the properties effected by flooding were put together, their accumulated value is not increased by the same amount of the cost of building a successful flood defence scheme. If it was, then the Government could put in place a caveat that all those properties should be valued both prior to and after the defences were built. That on sale of a said property by the current owner, any increase in value incurred - plus the percentage rate of increase on the original increased value - should be paid as a tax.

That would shut them up... it’s obvious what their game is. I should not want to feel I have paid a single penny towards their prospecting.

With all due respect Mr *********... read your own books, look at the pictures YOU selected for inclusion in your own books and see: Sydney Smith’s images of flooding.

Obvious as obvious can be!

Hi Pick Me. Welcome to the forums.

I think you have raised some interesting points. However, we do not like individuals mentioned, with that in mind I have deleted some of the content from your post.

Thank you.
