to move or not to move?

Postby heleniw » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:34 am

I am considering moving to the Pickering area. I have selected Pickering as it is in a perfect location, but I know very little about the twon. Can anyone please tell me what is special about the place, it's good bits, it's bad bits and what makes life good in the vicinity? Genuine enquiry...thanks.

Hi Helen

Welcome to the forums.

Without knowing your likes & dislikes, it is difficult to say what it good or bad about the town of Pickering.

So instead, I’ll just let you have a brief.

  • Population is about 7,000.
  • Excellent schools.
  • Good leisure facilities including municipal sports centre and swimming pool.
  • Situation on a crossroad providing excellent road communications with Whitby, Scarborough, York and Leeds. There is also a train station 10 miles away in Malton. Buses run from Pickering to Malton.
  • Good shopping facilities.
  • 2 large car parks.
  • A library.
  • A museum.
  • The longest steam railway in England.
  • Lots of pubs.
  • A reasonable selection of restaurants. The Star in at Harome with the award winning Andrew Pern 15 minutes drive away.
  • Surrounded by wonderful countryside and coastlines.

It would be ridiculous to suggest that Pickering is without problems. Although crime is very low.

If there is anything specific you would like to know more about, feel free to ask.

Cheers
Pike.
:D
