Malton, North Yorkshire - famous for it's popular traditional Saturday street market and Food Lovers Festival, played host to the second Malton and Norton Folk Festival on Friday and Saturday. Visitors to the Saturday Market were in for a special treat as crowds gathered to watch as the earliest in the calendar of UK Folk Festival's took to the street in the Market Place.

Delighting the onlookers were the musicians and dancers from around the region including 'The Raving Maes' who describe themselves as 'An Alternative Morris Dancing Team' or a cross between Rocky Horror, S&M with M&S. Dressed in their colourful black and red costumes with Dr Martin Boots they added a real flash of colour to the backdrop of green and white market stalls.

From Whitby there were 'Jet Set' in their Edwardian Gothic style dress, who say they are "Breaking the rules of Border Morris."

Of course no Folk Festival would be complete without traditional 'Morris Dancers' and for those who enjoy tradition, they were not to be disappointed, they came and they danced throughout the day to the accompaniment of traditional folk music and song.

On Friday and Saturday nights the pubs around Malton and Norton were packed with music lovers as some of the best known names in Folk Music played their hearts out.

One of the festival's organisers Rowena Garner said she was delighted with the turn out, the crowds and the reception. She along with her husband Dave and other festival organisers are already planning for next year, which is hoped will be even bigger and better.
