Coastal Erosion

Free Photos, Skipsea, East Yorkshire

This photo was taken in the first week of June 2009. The location is Skipsea in East Yorkshire.

It shows what is left of the coast road which is gradually crumbling into the sea. The erosion on this section of the Yorkshire Coastline is rapid, sometimes several feet at a time are washed into the sea.

On the left of the large gap in the road is a footpath, which people were walking along, oblivious to the fact that it was completely undermined and the remaining few inches upon which they walked, was held in place only by some drainage pipes. Only a matter of time before that gives way too.
