Thornton Le Dale Show 2009

Event, Thornton Le Dale, North Yorkshire

With a soaking wet Yorkshire Day put behind us, the ever popular Thornton Le Dale Show got a lucky break with the weather this year and thousands of delighted visitors were treated to a spectacular day out with a generous variety of events and displays.

There were the usual flowers, fruit and vegetables on display, plus a range of arts & crafts inside the marquees. So in the morning when there were light showers, there was plenty to keep people occupied inside.

There were the usual sheep trials and judging, plus horse riding display teams, acrobatics, junior show jumping events and a display by the Thornton Le Dale Hunt.

But one thing that will always be kept as one of those golden moments in my life was the lady commentating on the junior show jumping. Clearly she was keen to go home!!! But to quote her announcement over the tannoy "Can the riders hurry up into the field please as we are running a bit late and it's getting dark. No-one in particular is to blame, it's just that one judge took an hour and twenty minutes to judge five horses and that has really screwed us up." Classic - you couldn't make it up.

I suspect that she had picked up a pair of sun glasses by mistake, it was beautiful blue sky, the sun was heading west though.

Hang the judge!

All in all a great day out for everyone. Well done to everyone, especially the kids.
