UPDATE: Shortly after 7pm on Tuesday 16 April 2013, Mr Wattam was arrested at a property in Scarborough.

NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE are appealing for the public's help to locate Steven Wattam, a man wanted for recall to prison.

Mr Wattam, 44, is wanted for recall as he has breached the terms of his licence by failing to attend meetings with the probation service and has been arrested on suspicion of committing further offences.

He was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment at Grimsby Crown Court in September 2012, for burglary. He was released on licence in March 2013.

Wattam is described as white, 5ft 8in tall with short brown hair.

Although his whereabouts are unknown, officers believe that Wattam is still in the Scarborough area. However, he does have links in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire.

Inspector Garry Ridler, of Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Steven, if see or hear this appeal, I urge you to hand yourself in to the nearest police station. We are not going to stop looking for you and it is in your own best interests to contact us before we find you.

"We have already visited a number of addresses where we know Wattam has links and will continue to make these calls until he is back behind bars.

"I also taking this opportunity to warn anyone who may be shielding Wattam that they are not helping him. They are, in fact, making the inevitable outcome worse. They may even be committing offences themselves and face the prospect of arrest and prosecution if this is the case."

Inspector Ridler added: "If you know where Wattam is or can help to locate him I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away."

Anyone who can help in the search for Steven Wattam is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the information to the Force Control Room.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
